A resource no counselor or counselor-in-training can afford to be without – the ACA Ethical Standards Casebook provides a detailed analysis of the 2005 ACA Code of Ethics and a foundation for ethical decision making in counseling practice. Through enlightening case studies and vignettes, the Casebook offers expert guidance in applying ethical standards in work with diverse clients. The sixth edition of this book reflects the latest changes in the Code, including modifications to thinking on dual relationships, online counseling, and the nuances of culturally sensitive counseling.
Be sure to also look for the ACA Code of Ethics as approved by the ACA Governing Council 2005 to complete your library of ethical and legal resources.
The masterful job Barbara Herlihy and Gerald Corey have done in writing the sixth edition of the Casebook cannot be overemphasized. These authors have taken what could be bland concepts and given them an interesting life that makes ethics come alive. This book contains important material essential to the ethical practice of counselors regardless of their specialty. If there is any one resource that all counselors should own and use frequently, this is it! –Samuel T. Gladding, PhD Professor and Chair, Department of Counseling Wake Forest University ACA President 2004 2005
This book is exquisite in responding to the ethical dilemmas facing professional counselors today, addressing key issues in counseling and bringing them to life. Students-in-training, practitioners, and faculty teaching ethics should not miss this excellent, state-of-the-art book. –Fred Bemak, EdD George Mason University.
This book is a must-have for the counselor or the counseling graduate student. Each section of the Code of Ethics is set forth with two applicable examples. One example is the “do” and one example is the “don’t.” These examples clarify the Code and make it much more understandable.
I used this book in my master’s program for counseling psychology. It was very helpful considering my limited knowledge of ethical guidelines. It provides vignettes to help the student understand the ethical dilemma.
Herlihy and Corey provides a detailed rationale for the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethical Standards. They present the ethical codes for awareness, understanding, and application for the counseling profession. The case studies presented are related to the codes and offer insight for a counselor to interpret common concerns and issues that are often a grey area to ensure ethical practice. I feel this is a must have book in the professional library of today’s practicing counselors.
The book is thin and comfortable to use. This is the standard for those going into the mental health field as counselors. The book is extremely easy to read and well structured. I will be using this throughout my career (until the next update comes). The vignettes also provide a great opportunity for further conceptualization.
This is an excellent source of study for novices and experienced counselors. These case studies and ACA Ethical standards are excellent tools that educators may refer to when making ethical decisions and for references when teaching students about ethical decision making issues.
This is an awesome book and it helps a lot that it was brand new for a reasonable price. I enjoy having the ACA Code of Ethics in the book as well as case studies that break down the different codes and makes it easier to understand the codes. I will definitely purchase from this seller again.
