Biochemistry, 7th Edition

With a balance of topic coverage and depth this updated third edition covers the subject of biochemistry, and reflects the advances made in this field since the second edition published in 1981. These advances are incorporated without loss of historical perspective and without obscuring the main goal of the text: to teach the enduring fundamentals of the discipline.

Included in the third edition is a completely reorganized part one introducing the flow of information from gene to protein. It emphasizes the growing interrelatedness of molecular biology and biochemistry, and acquaints one with experimental methods of both disciplines. Also included is 150 new problems and a wealth of new material on molecular genetics and cellular processes.

There are a lot of blatant errors with the seventh edition. I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why equilibrium constant didn’t match the answer given a specific free energy value. Comparing it to the sixth edition revealed that they forgot to add a constant in their equation. I wonder why this book has more errors and mistakes since its supposed to be an “updated” version.

I am currently enrolled in an undergraduate biochemistry course and have been for about two months. So far (the first 15 chapters), I am very pleased with the textbook. Most explanations are clear, and the illustrations are usually helpful. Also, there are asides that link concepts to real world applications that are interesting. But, I wish the protein chapters included a more comprehensive coverage of motifs.

I used this book in my introductory biochemistry course. It was refreshingly well-written and up-to-date. In addition, the diagrams (mostly color) were clear and very helpful.

I am an undergraduate student and this is the textbook we are currently using for Biochemistry 1 & 2 Class. It is a really good book, with an extensive amount of in-depth text in order to understand the material being presented…

This is one of my favorite textbooks I have ever purchased. Beautiful binding, illustrations, and organized content. Excellent source for biochemical questions and absolutely packed full of information.
