Health Psychology, 8th Edition

The eighth edition of Health Psychology highlights health issues that face the college student and his or her family through both accessible research examples and profiles of interventions. Drawing on current, cutting-edge research, the text highlights health issues relevant to the college student’s immediate and global environment such as coping with stress, maintaining physical health, and making decisions about alcohol and smoking. This edition contains clear descriptions of current research into the prevention, treatment, and causes (social, genetic, and biological) of specific health related disorders.

Professor Taylor is the recipient of a number of awards, most notably the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Scientific Contribution to Psychology Award, a 10-year Research Scientist Development Award from the National Institute of Mental Health, and an Outstanding Scientific Contribution Award in Health Psychology. This book is excellently written. Health psychology is one of the more medically related sectors of psychology, and for many psychology students this might prove less interesting. But this book is constructed excellently, and I found the writing engaging. It is noteworthy, however, that there is an older version of this book that sometimes sells for less than five dollars on Amazon, and has virtually all of the same content. If you are buying this book for school and don’t want to spend $30-75 dollars on it, buy the 7th version instead of the 8th. It doesn’t have the updated cover, but content-wise you’d be getting your money’s worth.
