Lippincott’s Review for Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification, Fifth Edition provides the information nurses need to achieve certification in the specialty of medical-surgical nursing. This helpful reference covers the broad range of content found on the actual examinations, including disorders by body system, such as coronary artery disease, COPD, and diabetes. The product reviews signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests, medical treatments, nursing assessments, and interventions for scores of health problems. Concise refreshers on wound care, perioperative nursing, collaborative practice, nursing research, and legal issues are also included. Review questions after each chapter and an end-of-book posttest help assess the nurse’s preparedness for the exam. The book is appropriate for exams of both major certifying bodies: the ANCC and the AMSN.
Brought this book and the ancc review book!! This book gives you a little more depth than the ancc one!
Overall great book; passed my certification on the first try!!!
Haven’t taken the med-surg exam yet but this book is the easiest to understand. It’s the best one of the 4 books I bought.
Good review book, seems to be all the information that you should know or learned in nursing school. Like the questions at the end of each chapter.
I bought this book about a month before I went to sit for my certification test. This book makes it very easy to review med-surg topics. It outlines each topic with key points to make it easy to focus on the important key notes. Each chapter also has a review test at the end that is helpful and at the end of the book it has a overall comprehensive test that helps to see how ready you are to take the certification exam. This book was very helpful for me and I passed my certification the first time!
As far as I can tell, this book is a replica of the Springhouse Review (after all, Springhouse was published by Lippincott), except printed with and bound by nicer paper. The med-surg/clinical content covered in the book is sound; however, it is rather lacking in the area that concerns “Improve[ing] the Quality of Nursing Care Delivery”(as classified in the ANCC Med-Surg Board Certification Test Content Outline), which happens to be fairly heavily emphasized on the test. Personally, the book helped me narrow down the topics I need to focus on, but if you prefer to not spend the extra $40-60 for this exam, reviewing any med-surg content from your old NCLEX preparation book would probably suffice.
Has valuable material to maintain a safe practice. Formats well for a tablet. Recommended for those looking to take the certification exam.
So far, this is a great overall view for the Med-Surg nurse. I like how it reviews information for each of the body systems, legal and ethical aspects, and pharmacology. It is definetely a great refresher.
