The ENHANCED, REVISED, REPRINT of Maternal-Child Care Nursing is the same great book that won an AJN Book-of-the-Year Award… made even better with the feedback we received from instructors across the country and Canada.
BONUS! The Women’s Health Companion, packaged with every copy of the book, is a $29.00 value that’s absolutely FREE when you purchase the ENHANCED, REVISED, REPRINT. It’s a complete guide to the role of the nurse in promoting women’s health. From class to clinical through NCLEX to practice, it presents all of the information nursing students need to know and shows them how to apply it in both traditional and community settings. There are even teaching and learning resources for this content online at DavisPlus.
The perfect balance of maternal and child nursing care in a new textbook conceived and written to be a combination textbook! An extensive review by nursing educators ensures that it offers just the right depth and breadth of coverage for students in today’s maternity/pediatric courses. Its unique emphasis on optimizing outcomes, evidence-based practice, and research supports the goal of caring for women, families and children not only in traditional hospital settings, but also wherever they live, work, study, or play. Clear, concise, and easy to follow, the content is organized around four major themes, holistic care, critical thinking, validating practice, and tools for care that help students to learn and apply the material.
I was required to get this book for my OB and Peds class in nursing school. I thought it was an easy read. The book itself isn’t very thick, compared to the required textbook (Maternal-Child Nursing by McKinney et al.) for the same class for the previous semester. The McKinney book was thick as hell, no one wanted that book, but that book was more detailed. This book broke down the concept in fewer, and easier words to understand, but it didn’t really go into much detail. Also, I don’t know the difference between this enhanced version and the one I had, but maybe the spelling/grammatical errors were fixed.
The one I have had errors left and right, and there were some conflicting information from different parts of the book that it was difficult to accept it as a credible source for most of us students. I can’t believe this won the AJN book-of-the-year award, but when I think back to my class, and I compared this book to the McKinney book, without the errors, I definitely preferred this one. At the time, I got both books just to see the difference, paranoid that the tests were created out of the previously assigned textbook, and from a student’s point of view, this book was just more understandable, as sometimes after reading the McKinney book, I’d have to refer back to this book just to understand what I just read.
While I know most people buying this textbook probably don’t have a choice in the matter, this one is one of the better choices out there. The chapters are laid out quite nicely with the important stuff highlighted in tables, boxes, and mini-nursing care plans. There are even a few refreshing pictures to break up the dread of textbook reading. The jargon explains itself and there is a low BS:relevant word ratio. Good NCLEX study questions at the end of each chapter and the CD gives you some silly but useful practice modules.
The only difference between the older version and this one is corrected spelling errors. Pagination is the same.
The book arrived on time and in perfect condition. i think its a bargain. they do have an edited newer version that is more than double this one so if the teacher doenst mind i say purchase this one. great deal
