Primary Care Art and Science of Advanced Practice Nursing, 3rd Edition

The premier reference for advanced practice nurses providing primary care, written by nurse practitioners for nurse practitioners in collaboration with a physician!

This respected text offers a solid understanding of the theoretical foundation of nursing practice as well as comprehensive patient-care guidance based on the latest scientific evidence.

Thoroughly updated and revised, the 3rd Edition examines diseases and disorders of every body system as well as men’s health, women’s health, psychosocial problems, and more. It also presents new coverage of pathophysiology, diagnostic reasoning, evidence-based practice, geriatrics, and pediatrics.

Clear, concise, readable, well organized, and easy to follow, the text, together with the resources online at DavisPlus, offers complete coverage of of the APRN’s role as a primary care provider.

This was required during adult and I found it to be great in some aspects but lacking in others. For an overall book to learn the concepts of primary care medicine, its sufficient but there is contradictory info in this book compared to board review ones.

We were required this past semester to purchase this book for my FNP program. The first week, I tried to read it, and I just couldn’t even get through 3 chapters. We have assigned readings in this book every week, and I NEVER do them (mainly because we have two other books that also have assigned readings over the same stuff, and they are much better books). This book is so redundant and just repeats everything it says over and over and over. I realize that repetition is good to help you learn, but this book is ridiculous! It is so dry and boring. After the first week or two of classes, I threw it down and have not looked at it since. If you have to purchase this book, good luck to you! I highly recommend Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines 2013 by Papadakis and McPhee (if I misspell their names or don’t get the title exactly right, forgive me. I don’t have the book in front of me). It will tell you everything the Dunphy book will, but with color pictures and simple lingo.

You know when you don’t want to buy yet another book, well be glad you did. This is the book that you will bring into practice with you. Up to date information, diff diagnoses, Tteatment modalities, and patient education; what more can one ask for. I have brought it with my to the ICU area and my co workers enjoy looking though it. It is money well spent.

Was very detailed with great information, but more medically geared than nursing. It was helpful and easy to read though.

This plus to this book is its comprehensiveness but there are a lot of little mistakes and contradictions within. I think there are probably better, more concise books out there but unfortunately, our adult class is using this one.

Well organized text! Easy to use, easy to understand. Current and applicable information for today’s nurse practitioner and nurse practitioner student.
